Alkylation of isobutane with butenes using OSDA-free zeolite beta

The acid-catalyzed alkylation of isobutane with butenes is an important contributor to the production high-quality gasoline. Recent advances in this field focus on development solid acid catalysts substitute current liquid-based alternatives. La-exchanged faujasite (La-HY) has been implemented industrially due its excellent activity and selectivity, but remains prone deactivation. In work, Beta zeolites from seeded syntheses (without organic structure directing agents, OSDAs) were investigated as viable alternative increased catalyst productivity. First, their stability was benchmarked against that OSDA-based batchwise, deactivating operational conditions. Herein, OSDA-free significantly outperformed zeolites. time-on-stream behavior evaluated a CSTR setup. optimal conditions, productivity above 30 gprod/gcat selectivity 85% C8 obtained. Moreover, industrial benchmark La-HY. After reaction, can be regenerated three times without loss activity, preferably via regeneration under hydrogen.
